The Santa Barbara County Office of the Auditor-Controller is seeking to fill Financial Office Professional – Intern positions within the Financial Accounting & Customer Support (FACS) division. This is a paid position. The position is currently remote due to the ongoing pandemic but will eventually transition to in-person.

The Auditor’s Office is seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented sophomores and juniors that possess strong interpersonal skills and are interested in pursuing a career in accounting. Basic Excel knowledge is required. Basic SQL and database experience is a plus.

The Financial Office Professional – Intern position is a paid part-time position with an expected time commitment of 12-20 hours/week at a pay rate of $15.92/hour. Interns are expected to work on an ongoing basis throughout the school year and during school breaks, including summer. Work hours are flexible as interns are permitted to set their own schedules within an 8 AM – 5 PM work day, keeping in mind the anticipated weekly time commitments described above. In addition, the Auditor’s Office is mindful of conflicting school schedules and is able to make accommodations for midterms and finals.

Within the FACS division, an intern’s daily duties typically include authorizing payments to vendors, responding to inquiries regarding vendor payments, and performing light clerical and reception office tasks. As interns gain more experience, their duties and responsibilities may expand into special accounting projects such as departmental expenditure reviews, independent contractor analysis, accrual reviews, and other State/Federal reporting.

Candidates may be considered for other divisions within the Auditor-Controller’s Office (i.e. Property Tax and Internal Audit) based on interests and qualifications. Each division within the Auditor-Controller’s Office has specific responsibilities and intern daily duties vary depending on which division they are hired into.
