****************************************************************************************************************Academic Coordinator I – Education Coordinator for PSTAT
The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an Education Coordinator, with an anticipated start date of December 1, 2020 or shortly thereafter.

The Education Coordinator (EC) serves as primary departmental outreach and industry liaison programs contact, including for Actuarial Science, Data Science and Financial Mathematics undergraduate programs, and the Center for Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Research (CFMAR). The Coordinator administers and oversees multiple aspects of the Actuarial Science Program, including scholarships, team projects’ logistics, Society of Actuaries liaison, Corporate Affiliate program, Advisory Board liaison, and other programmatic activities. The Education Coordinator supports undergraduate students by providing career connections through coordinating recruitment events and information sessions with employers and industry leaders. The EC works closely with and serves as the staff advisor to the UCSB Actuary Association and the Data Science Club.

The Education Coordinator organizes annual actuarial events, including Career Fair, Actuary Day, California Actuarial Student Summit and other quarterly or annual programmatic activities. The Coordinator contacts and engages PSTAT alumni for partnership with the Department and student clubs. This includes design and dissemination of marketing materials. This position maintains a social media presence and actively participates in fundraising activities, including working closely with the Development Office.

The EC assists the Actuarial Science Director, CFMAR Director, and business officer in the planning, design, organization and implementation of long-range vision, goals and objectives in the context of career placement, development, alumni relations, and industry connections. Supervises student work-study assistants assigned to specific events, career development workshops, and media publishing tasks. The EC also oversees the hiring and onboarding of undergraduate learning assistants for PSTAT courses.

Appointment is expected to run between 50-85% for the current academic year (2020-2021) with potential to increase to 100% in the 2021-2022 academic year. Re-appointment in the position is contingent on satisfactory performance and on available funding; this position is renewable on a year-to-year basis.

At a minimum, applicants should have a Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Art in the area of Statistics, Education Administration, Communication, Social Science, or related field at time of application. Knowledge of communication/media outreach methods (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat are essential for the job. Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects is also essential for the position. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate a track record of strong communication skills and ability to connect with a diverse group of stakeholders, including industry liaisons, students, faculty, staff, and community members. A Master’s Degree is preferred, but not required. Experience in working in higher education, development/fundraising, event planning, or program administration is desired.
