Message to our students

Dear Students,

The events of the past week have profoundly shaken and saddened everyone in the Economics Department – students, staff, and faculty. As Chancellor Yang said on Sunday, “We are yet again, as a university community and as a country, confronted by acts of injustice that are beyond measure.” We know that many of you are hurting, confused, and justifiably angry at our institutions and the response of public officials and law enforcement. We too share the outrage and grief of our black community. And we too stand united against racism and injustice.

Although instruction is remote, we are by your side during this troubling and uncertain time. Our students make UCSB what it is. Please take care of yourselves and others and reach out for help when you need it. We support you.

We encourage you to reach out to your instructors if issues arise that they might be able to help with. We similarly encourage you to reach out to our undergraduate advisors at ugrad@econ.ucsb.edu or Professors Bedard (Department Chair) and Royer (Undergraduate Chair) at econ-econ2020@ucsb.edu.

We also want to remind you of other important resources on campus that may be of help.
