The Department of Finance is Hiring!!

The Department of Finance would like to invite UCSB students to apply for the position of Finance Budget Analyst (FBA). Finance will begin accepting applications for FBA positions in Sacramento, California in approximately mid-August. We are looking for high performing individuals who are interested in being part of a professional and respected team that advises the Governor’s Office on policy and budget issues. Finance analysts play a key role in helping to shape public policy decisions, the state budget, and legislation in areas such as health care, education, environmental regulation, and public safety. The FBA position provides an opportunity to work on issues that impact the people of California and often carry national policy implications. The FBA is a civil service position. To apply for this position, applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria: 1) take and pass the Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) state exam; or 2) take and pass the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) state exam, or 3) be a current California State civil service employee with lateral transfer eligibility. Applicants who are interested in applying for this position and are not currently an employee with the of State of California, will need to obtain eligibility by taking and passing either the AGPA or SSA online examination available on the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) website.

Obtaining a passing score on the AGPA on-line exam will result in eligibility for the Finance Budget Analyst position, while obtaining a passing score on the SSA on-line exam will result in eligibility for the Junior Staff Analyst position. The FBA Employment Opportunity Bulletin will be available on Finance’s website during the second week of August. The bulletin will provide additional information on the application process and final application filing date. Interviews are anticipated to occur in mid-September, with selected candidates scheduled to start work in mid-October. I know you typically have a number of international students in your undergraduate and graduate programs, and while there is no citizenship requirement to work at Finance, employees do have to have permission to work in the U.S.
