Isla Vista Surfrider is seeking interns for this school year. We have 4 different internship opportunities available and we would love to get YOU more involved with our organization to make this year the best one yet!
What is IV Surfrider? Isla Vista Surfrider is a chapter of the international Surfrider Foundation. We are a nonprofit dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves, and beaches through a powerful activist network. Started by surfers our group consists of surfers and ocean enthusiasts alike who are dedicated to protecting local coastlines. Below are the descriptions for the positions that are available! We’ll conduct interviews the following week and then hire some awesome new people to join the Surfrider team!

Ocean Friendly Gardens: Ocean Friendly Gardens is a program that focuses on the retrofit of home gardens to decrease their ocean impact. Surfrider is seeking a team of motivated inters to lead this campaign and complete a garden restoration project by the end of the year. Mentorship will be provided by the Santa Barbara Ocean Friendly Gardens coordinators to help our IV interns have the most successful project possible.
Blue Water Task Force: The Blue Water Task Force is a program focused on the water quality of our local beaches. We are seeking a team of interns to test the water quality of three of our local beaches once a week. Interns are responsible for the collection, testing and analysis of water samples as well as the reporting of this data. Interns will be responsible for monitoring water quality as well as conducting public outreach to educate our community about water quality issues. We are looking for a few interns who are willing to commit to a minimum year long internship.
Concert for the Coast Coordinator: Concert for the Coast is IV Surfrider’s biggest annual event. It is a day-long concert that is held in a park in Isla Vista. Surfrider is seeking a coordinator who would be responsible for assisting in putting on this awesome event! Responsibilities would include booking the bands, fundraising, and facilitating the event. We are looking for someone that is freshman or sophomore standing, so they can continue the event after this year.
Rise Above Plastics Coordinator: IV Surfrider is looking to initiate a Rise Above Plastics Campaign on campus to increase the community’s awareness of the dangers of single-use plastics. The focus this year will be on decreasing red cup consumption. Responsibilities will include creating and implementing a media campaign (digital and physical) tailored to the UCSB and Isla Vista community.
