Accounting Position – Bay Area

AP ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST Finance | San Francisco, CA, United States
The Zendesk Finance Team is seeking an A/P accounting specialist who will support the Finance department by performing vendor invoice processing, expense report processing, corporate credit card payment processing and reconciliation,payroll processing, and other duties necessary to assist the department to achieve accurate record keeping of all Accounts Payable transactions.Experience in a high tech, start-up environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a rapidly evolving environment is critical.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Process vendor invoices, check requests and other disbursements
  • Review and process employee expense reports in accordance with Company policy
  • Review, reconcile and post Corporate credit card expenses monthly
  • Code payments to appropriate general ledger accounts for accurate posting
  • Record payroll entries to the General Ledger on a bi-monthly basis
  • Route vendor invoices to appropriate departments for approval
  • Process timely check runs on a consistent basis to ensure payment deadlines are met
  • Communicate with outside vendors regarding invoice inquiries/discrepancies and payment status
  • Assist in booking employee travel
  • File paid A/P invoices and wires


  • Maintain an accurate Accounts Payable aging that agrees to the General Ledger at the end of each month
  • Assist with accounting month and year end closes as related to accounts payable


  • Maintain and update an accurate vendor database, including W-9 forms
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms and required filings with the federal and state agencies
  • Record and maintain expenses eligible for tax deduction (i.e. Meals & Entertainment).

Desired Skills & Experience


  • 0-2 years experience in accounting, preferably in a high-tech growth environment
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Energetic and dedicated
  • Ability to work independently
  • Flexible to shift tasks as daily corporate agenda evolves
  • Articulate and good writing skills
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite a plus
