Dear Students,
In 2020, much of the country experienced a necessary revitalization of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (DEI) in our communities. The UCSB Economics Department recognizes that it needs to better support underrepresented students within our program. As such, the department feels it is crucial to uplift the undergraduate perspective through the DEI Committee.
We are looking to recruit 4-6 undergraduates among both pre-majors and majors to join the DEI Committee and contribute to a more equitable experience in the department.
As a combination of undergraduate students, faculty, and staff, we have successfully launched the Mentoring in Economics (ME) Program and the Economists at Work Speaker Series.
Since the committee’s founding, we have discussed topics including but not limited to: curriculum, climate, and intersectional community. Now, we are looking to expand our work in these areas with new ideas from students like yourself!
If you are interested in being a voice for undergraduates in Economics, please apply through the Google form by Wednesday, February 1st at 5:00 PM. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so be sure to submit at your earliest convenience. We look forward to your application! Please email econ-dei@ucsb.edu with questions.
