Pacific Coast Business Times is looking for interns!!

The Pacific Coast Business Times, the weekly business journal for the tri-county area, is looking for an economics or accounting student for a hands-on fall internship. You won’t be making coffee and copies — you’ll be an integral part of our news team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply his or her academic training with timely research on the regional economy and companies based in the area. This intern will analyze the latest economic forecasting data, study public records relevant to business and finance, scour the SEC filings of public companies in the region, and otherwise contribute invaluable research to our articles.

Journalism experience is not necessary for this position, although an interest in financial journalism is a big plus. This is a research internship, not a writing one, so there won’t be any requirement to write articles for publication. However, if you’d like to hone your writing skills, we will be happy to teach you the basics of writing and reporting and edit your work with you, with the goal of getting at least one published clip.

The Pacific Coast Business Times covers business and financial news in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. We have been covering the region for the past 10 years, from the dot-com boom to the Great Recession. We write for a sophisticated lay audience, and our publication is a fixture on the desks of the region’s most influential people.

This internship will be offered for course credit, through the Department of Economics’ Career Connection program. Our research intern will be asked to work about 10-15 hours per week. We are flexible on the dates and times, but we would prefer it if your schedule allows you to come to our office at least two days a week. We are located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, easily accessible by bus or car from UCSB and Isla Vista.
